Vintage Inspired Ice Cream Social

I am SO excited about today's post!
If you follow me on Facebook then you probably saw this little teaser picture I shared about something going on at the Farmhouse this past weekend.

Did you guess it right?

I have wanted to host one of these for forever, but never had the excuse opportunity to do so until now. Hubs and I hosted a get together for our church's young adult/teen group at our home and I was finally able to do it. Everyone helped out by bringing different kinds of ice creams and toppings, and I did all the decorating (I just couldn't help myself!).  I went with a red and aqua vintage theme.

I had so much fun going through my stash and coming up with the decor to fit the theme.  Let's take a closer look shall we?

This Dr. Pepper crate is divided and I used each of the sections to hold something different.  A galvanized bucket held the spoons, cute little checkered napkins I got at a yard sale this summer for .50 (see, I knew those would come in handy some time!), bananas for the "split" lovers, and a section for brownies.
Side note - I staged this table ahead of time so that I would have plenty of time to take pictures and not be rushing around trying to set up the toppings as people were bringing them AND trying to take pictures.  Those brownies are the packaged kind, the real ones that someone brought looked and tasted much better!

I used my glass peanut jar to hold the cones.  Maybe I'm just biased, but I thought they looked adorable in there!

And the cute little vintage ice cream bowls I ordered from an Etsy shop were stacked on top of a vintage scale.  (These actually were quite a bit smaller than I expected them to be, they really could only hold one scoop, so I ended up buying paper bowls since I knew most everyone would want more than these could hold.)

The two vintage looking signs were something I put together for this.  My mother-in-law just recently sent me those frames.  I had picked them out for her house when I was helping her decorate years ago, and when they were packing to move to a new house (and getting rid of a lot of stuff) I asked her if I could have them.  They had different pictures in them of course, but when I was going through all of my stuff I came across an old calendar that I've been saving for years because it's full of these vintage looking sign pictures.  I found two that were ice cream related and popped them on in place of the others.  I love how much it added to the overall look.

This crate (found for $1.99 at Goodwill!) held all of the sauces, whipped cream, and the banana split bowls.  (Again, this was staged.  Once everyone showed up and brought their items there was quite a bit more options of sauces and other toppings than what I have pictured here.)

Miniature galvanized buckets (leftover from our wedding 10 years ago!) held the other toppings.

I found these adorable tablecloth weights years ago and have had them stashed away just waiting for this very night.  : )

Now, we'll move on around the deck and check the rest of it out.  To the right of the toppings table I had this vintage wash tub set up (borrowed from my junkin' buddy, whom I'll refer to as JB from here on out because I tend to refer to her a lot).  I'm doing my best to convince her that it's feeling very much at home here and doesn't really need to go back to her house.

We filled it with ice to hold the ice cream.  (Un-pictured {because it wasn't so pretty} was a cooler that held the rest of the ice cream that didn't fit in this tub.)

Moving on around to the right of the wash tub we get to the other side of the deck where we see another section of the pennant banner I made.

The red and aqua ones almost look like they were solid colors, but really they were faintly polka dotted.

Then moving around just to the right of the banner we come to the drink cart.

I partially opened one drawer and used that to hold the cups.  (I got the idea for that from this pin on Pinterest.)  The drink dispensers were also borrowed from JB.

This galvanized bucket (a $1 yard sale purchase this summer) held bottles of root beer for anyone wanting a float.

Cute red and aqua paper straws (also ordered from an Etsy shop) made me smile every time I looked at them.  They were so bright and festive and kee-ute!

And here's a better view of the decor on the shelves under the drink cart.

I got that cute little lunchbox at a yard sale this summer and stored it away knowing someday I would have the perfect use for it.  The aqua jar held an electric tea light candle (there was also one on the toppings table).  It looked warm and glowy once evening set in.

The lemonade tray was something I made last summer, and I thought it appropriate here since that's what was on the drink table.

The vintage aqua ice cream churn was also borrowed from JB.  Wasn't it just the perfect touch?

She also had this old churn that was more of a green color, but it was so cute I displayed it too even though it didn't really match the color scheme.  Can you believe her dad found it in a dumpster and rescued it for her?!?  Can we say jealous happy for her?

The little vintage ice cream cups were the perfect size for the kiddos.  They had so much fun going back time and time again refilling their bowls and choosing any and every topping they wanted (and even licking the top of the Redi-Whip can, lol!)

A yummy root beer float.

You may have noticed in some of the pictures that we had lights wrapped around the deck.  They were red, white, and blue ones that I got last summer in an after summer clearance sale for super cheap.  They looked really pretty once it got dark.

I had so much fun planning and decorating for this and most of all hosting it.  Since everyone helped out by bringing the ice cream and toppings, we really didn't have a whole lot of expense in this since I had most of the decor already and borrowed the rest.  Cheap, cute, and so much fun - just the way I like it.

Special thanks to JB for letting me borrow her stuff and for putting up with my many texts and pictures asking her opinions on every little detail.  That's what great friends are for, right?   : )

And finally, I'll leave you with a picture full of pure cuteness.  That's my lil' guy at the party.  His sweet, chubby little hands and face just melt my heart, every.single.day.

  7. First let me say your son is absolutely adorable, but then you know that huh? Look at those eyelashes. He reminds me so much of my little guys. Makes me wish I could start again. So darned sweet and innocent.
Hey are there any vacancies around where you live? I'd love to be a neighbor, come help out when you have parties like that. Looks so welcoming, what a great job you did. Sounds like alot of good old fashioned fun.
Seeing some of your decorations makes me very lonesome for the wash tub and stand we had to sell before we moved from KY. Also the scale you had on the table, I had one of those also had to sell. Just not room in moving truck for so many things we had to sell or leave.
