A New Picture....Finally!

Below is the picture I've had on my sidebar since I started this blog.  Titled "The Current (Rented) 'Farmhouse.' "  It's had a caption underneath promising ''an improved picture coming soon."  Well.....FINALLY I got around to taking a few.  (But now Blogger is not allowing me to update it in the sidebar, so I'll have to try to fix that later.)

This was a super quick picture, taken with my little point & shoot, before we ever moved in.

10 months later I finally got around to taking a better one.

Can you believe I only paid $4.25 a piece for these mums?!?  My landlady told me about the place, a local greenhouse.  They are gorgeous!  I bought 4 of them.

The rusty orange plant isn't quite as fully in bloom as the red ones, yet.
(You can see the yellow one sitting in the birdbath at the far right end of the house.)

Anyways, just wanted to share an updated and improved picture of the "farmhouse."

$1 Edison Style Lamp

I found this lamp at a yard sale over the weekend for $1.  It's not any name brand or anything, in fact I'm pretty sure it's from K-mart originally.  I asked the lady if it worked, she said yes, but that I would need to find a new shade for it.

Au contraire Mademoiselle.  The shade I do not need.

I saw it without the shade as sort of an Edison style lamp.  I gave it a couple of days of probation, and in the end decided I like it.

I think it makes a nice pairing with the Edison lamp I made a few months ago.

I fully expected my husband's reaction to be, "That's weird." - an exact quote of his reaction to my suitcase table, which can be seen {here}.  But shockingly, he actually liked it!  I knew there was a reason I keep him around.

What Would You Do?

Ever have those times when your creative juices are just lacking?  That's been me lately.  I go through periods where I feel crazy inspired and have dreams of completing umpteen projects, but then life with kids happens and maybe one of them gets done.  Anyways, I digress.

I found this cute little metal, storage bin, cubby hole, thingy-ma-bob at a yard sale for $1.   (Please excuse the overgrown grass, our mower is taking a vacation from life apparantly)

Anything red and metal always makes my heart beat a little faster.  So I bought it without any purpose in mind for it, just figured I love it so I'll find some use for it.  Problem is......so far I haven't.  Just not feeling it.  The previous owners used it as a shoe holder....in their closet!  They hid away it's vintage beauty in a closet!  I have bigger plans for it.  No wait, I don't really, because I can't figure out what to do with it!

I bought it with my kitchen in mind, because that room has a  very Vintage-y vibe with lots of red and yellow.  I'd like it to have some measure of functionality, and not just be completely decorative.

But I don't want it to be purely functional either, as in, I don't want to display all my canned goods in it.

So, for now it's sort of an after thought, sitting in this neglected corner of my kitchen with a leftover Fall arrangement plunked on top.

So...what would you do with it?  Please help me get my creativeness functioning again.
